South Indian and korean language and Cultural similarities

As i am always looking for common cultural and linguistic background of South Indian (especially Tamilian ) and Korean sociaty.I observed many commonness in language,Food, social ceremonies, religious and so on.From my observation of this friendly nation, may have had a very close political and economical relations with South India.

Food Habit Similarities

When i was a child i saw some of the village old generation ppl used to eat in a kind of Brass or Bronse utensil called Kumpha which is very similar to Korean Stone Food bowels.I also noticed the very similar utensils used in the tamil nadu villages for cooking had been used in Korean villages some 30-50 years Ago.
If we noticed the korean traditional hoses with our own tamilaian old houses loooks some what similar in architect

I was ver surprised to see the similarity in rice making, in my childhood days i was fortunate to experience some very traditional Tamil rice preparation such as Sorgum plus rice,Foxtail millet plus rice and another millet (kuthira valli) plus rice, but the surprice is still some part of korea they used to preapre rice with all the above combination.
I want to empahsis the point that the Foxtail millet,(Thinai) closely associate with Tamilian culture and for a long time culturally and Religiously associated with tamilians which comonly still now used by this contry.
I want to talk more abt the temples and historical sites i visited in korea and its commonness with southindian monuments and stuctures.
One of such Place is Avalakoteeswara temple in gyongju.....,

  1. I came to your blog by googling similarities between Tamil and Korean. I'm Tamil and about a year back heard a Korean woman in the play ground saying something like "bowbow undha" to her kid. When I asked what she meant she said something about her kid getting scared by a little dog that was barking nearby.

I recently read a book by a Korean author, and was surprised that the words for mom and dad are amma and apa, similar to Tamil. Just got interested to know if there are other similarities too.

  2. Ya. There are a lot of similarities between Tamil/Malayalam and Korean.
For example the word for 'come' is 'va' in both Tamil/Malayalam and in Korean.
And the word for 'see' in Korean is 'paath' similar to Tamil. And 'the word for 'it is like that' is 'thaan' as in Tamil, as in 'athu thaan, ithu thaan' and all...
Also the word 'onni' used by Konginians for sister is used by Korean women to call older sisters and older women.
